Kenning's take
What it does
Composer was Cursor's first own coding model, a mixture-of-experts model trained with reinforcement learning on real software tasks using tools such as code search, file editing and the terminal. Cursor said it generated code about four times faster than similarly capable models, finishing most turns in under 30 seconds. It launched with Cursor 2.0 and has since been replaced by later Composer versions.
- Mixture-of-experts model trained with reinforcement learning
- Trained with codebase-wide semantic search and terminal tools
- Most agent turns under 30 seconds
- About four times faster than similar models, by Cursor's measure
Who it suits. Developers using Cursor who want a fast in-house coding model for agent work.
