Verdict

The same Meta AI and camera as the Ray-Ban models in sportier frames, from £399 for the HSTN and £499 for the wraparound Vanguard. Stuff gave the Vanguard 4 out of 5 for fitness use, while T3 found the Garmin and Strava link clunky and the camera no match for an action cam. Claims that contractors viewed intimate footage led to an ICO letter and a US class action, and both are unresolved.

Ratings

What people say

Cycling and running threads in user reviews in 2026 are split. Owners like having music, a camera and glasses in one, while other riders call them a gimmick next to Bluetooth headphones or a GoPro and object to filming people. On X the conversation is mostly Meta and sports-sponsor marketing. Store ratings cover the whole Meta AI app, not these glasses.

“They are great. Awesome to be able to combine glasses, music and camera all in one. … Audio quality is better than my Shokz and battery life has improved through software updates.”

“Doesn't necessarily add anything and is just more of a gimmicky thing that doesn't absolutely ruin my ride experience”

“They're a massive invasion of other people's privacy, what more do you need to know?”

“For cycling and other sports they serve a good purpose, but not for general use in public.”

“i actually own three pairs of meta glasses … none of them are perfect tbh, but fun on the go.”

Press reviews

  • Stuff 2026-04-22

4/5 for the Vanguard: 'Comfy, long lasting and multi-talented … the ultimate smart glasses for fitness fanatics', though the nine-hour battery claim feels ambitious.

  • T3 2025-11-11

'Bold, beautifully built and full of promise, but the execution isn't there yet': camera can't replace an action cam, Garmin/Strava link is clunky and there is no HUD.

  • Tom's Guide 2025-08-21

A real but pricier upgrade on Ray-Ban Meta with polarised lenses that perform well outdoors and great battery; no prescription lens options, one style and the price count against it.

FAQ

Oakley Meta or Ray-Ban Meta?

They run the same Meta AI and camera. Oakley frames are built for sport, with the Vanguard adding Garmin and Strava links and a centre camera, and they cost £20 to £120 more than Ray-Ban Gen 2.

Do Oakley Meta glasses work with Garmin and Strava?

The Vanguard connects to Garmin watches and Strava to read out stats and tag clips. T3 found the integration clunky, and a user reviews cyclist noted Garmin navigation is not connected.

Can Oakley Meta glasses take a prescription?

Tom's Guide's August 2025 HSTN review listed no prescription lens options as a drawback. Meta's UK store now sells HSTN with clear and Transitions lenses, so prescription options are worth checking there before buying.
