Verdict
Suno is the best-known AI song maker and sits on all three a16z top-100 lists, with 4.86 stars from 40,625 UK App Store ratings. Since the Warner settlement the free plan can play and share songs but not download them, and the September 2026 v6 models drew a wave of user reviews complaints about flat, samey sound. Its privacy notice lets it train on uploads and prompts with no opt-out, and a German court ruled in July 2026 that its older models copied protected songs.

What people say
Hobbyists on X still post Suno songs with real enthusiasm, but user reviews turned hard against the September 2026 v6 models, with paying users saying the sound is flat and samey and cancelling subscriptions. Store stars (4.86 iOS, 4.79 Play) sit far above Trustpilot's 1.7 from 187 reviews, where download caps and billing dominate, a gap worth noting.
“I'm blown away by the music I can make with @suno...”

“Suno V6 is incredible, the sound quality is insane.”
Individual user review, 10 September 2026 · source
“V6 is really bad compared to V5.5 or V5. I will no longer renew my Suno subscription, because I can't get a single song as good as the ones made with the previous versions.”
Individual user review, 10 October 2026 · source
“suno only does pop music. it'll give you the pop music version of anything you ask for. if you ask for Igor Stravinsky, it'll give you Andrew Lloyd Weber.”
Individual user review, 9 October 2026 · source
“If they at least gave us back access to v5.5, I would definitely stay. But WMG gave them a legal spanking, and they ran away and hid.”

6/10 for Suno Studio. Polished-sounding output and useful stem and MIDI export, held back by inconsistent results, audio artefacts and a steep learning curve; Studio needs the Premier plan.
- TechRadar 2025-09-30
Hands-on with Suno Studio and v5. Editing stems helped, but an orchestral theme 'always felt at least a little generic' despite multiple remixes.

News report (date approximate, page shows '19 days ago'): individual reviewers turned against Suno after v6, calling it 'unusable'; labels argue v6 still rests on infringing models.

- Incidents
- Sued by UMG, Sony and Warner (2024); Warner settled and licensed Suno in November 2025. Munich Regional Court ruled for GEMA on 31 July 2026 that v3.5 and v4 models reproduced protected songs (Suno may appeal). July 2026 hack reported by 404 Media exposed old source code showing training audio scraped from YouTube, Deezer and Genius plus some customer data; Suno says the breach was in November 2025. UMG and Sony filed a second suit on 18 September 2026 over 60,202 recordings, alleging v6 'launders' the old models. Denmark's Koda also pursuing claims.

FAQ
Is Suno free?
Yes, the free plan gives 50 credits a day on the v6-mini model. Free songs can be played and shared but not downloaded, and they come with no commercial rights. Pro is £10 a month in the UK App Store.
Can I put Suno songs on Spotify?
Only songs made on a paid plan carry commercial rights, per Suno's pricing page. Ownership and copyright are still being argued in court, with UMG and Sony suing Suno again in September 2026.
Is Suno legal to use in the UK?
Yes, the app is on the UK App Store and Google Play. A German court ruled in July 2026 that Suno's older models copied six GEMA songs, and lawsuits continue in the US, so the legal position of its output is unsettled.
Why do people say Suno v6 is worse?
Suno rebuilt its models with Warner, BMG and Believe and launched v6 on 9 September 2026. Many individual reviewers say the new sound is flatter and less varied than v5.5, and some cancelled their subscriptions; others say it sounds better once prompts are adjusted.
Suno vs Udio?
Suno still lets paid users download songs. Udio stopped downloads after its October 2025 settlement with Universal and is rebuilding as a licensed platform.
