Music & audio

Most people here want something practical, like a cleaner voice recording, a backing track to play along to or a DJ mix for a party, and Moises, Adobe Podcast, BandLab and djay do those jobs well. The song generators split opinion: Suno has 4.86 stars from 40,625 UK App Store ratings but trains on uploads with no opt-out and is still fighting the major labels in court, and Udio settled by locking downloads away. Google Flow Music is the free option that still lets songs be downloaded.

Ranked by Kenning score out of 25. Tools scoring 12 or less are marked not recommended.

1

Google Flow Music 19/25

Flow Music is the old Riffusion and ProducerAI studio, bought by Google in February 2026 and now running its Lyria 3.5 model. The free account gets daily credits worth about six songs and lets them be downloaded as MP3, WAV or stems, which Udio and Suno's free plans no longer do. individual reviewers find it weaker than Suno outside mainstream genres, and Google keeps uploads and chats to train its models unless the setting is switched off.

Best for Trying AI songwriting for free and keeping the files

2

Moises 19/25

Moises takes a recording and pulls the instruments apart, then adds chord charts, a click track and key and speed changes for practice. Premium costs £4.99 a month in the UK App Store, cheaper than most AI subscriptions, and the company says it never trains on user uploads. Drummers in user reviews say processing has slowed and better separation now sits behind the £24.99 Pro plan.

Best for Musicians learning songs or making backing tracks to play along with

3

Adobe Podcast (Enhance Speech) 18/25

Enhance Speech is the tool reviewers keep reaching for when a recording is ruined by echo, traffic or a laptop mic, and the free plan handles an hour of audio a day. It rebuilds the voice rather than filtering it, so busy rooms can come out sounding robotic, and in September 2026 its output briefly triggered AI labels on Instagram and TikTok. Since 30 August 2026 the paid tier is only sold inside Adobe's £19.99 Firefly Pro plan.

Best for Rescuing a voice note, interview or video voiceover recorded in a bad room

4

BandLab 18/25

BandLab gives a full multitrack studio away free, and TechRadar called it the most intuitive mobile music software its reviewer had used. The AI parts are add-ons to real music-making, with SongStarter ideas, a four-stem splitter and preset mastering free, and noise removal and AutoMix behind the £14.99 a month Pro plan. Free users complain in user reviews about heavy ads and features moving behind the paywall in 2026.

Best for Teenagers and hobbyists recording songs or beats on a phone

5

djay (Algoriddim) 18/25

djay turns a phone or iPad into a two- or four-deck DJ set, and its Automix will blend a playlist on its own for a party. Its Neural Mix splits vocals, drums and instruments in real time, which Digital DJ Tips says now leads rival DJ software, but it doesn't work on tracks streamed from Spotify or Apple Music. Pro costs £6.99 a month in the UK App Store, cheap for DJ software.

Best for Beginners learning to DJ on a phone or iPad, and hosts who want an automatic party mix

6

Suno 14/25

Suno is the best-known AI song maker and sits on all three a16z top-100 lists, with 4.86 stars from 40,625 UK App Store ratings. Since the Warner settlement the free plan can play and share songs but not download them, and the September 2026 v6 models drew a wave of user reviews complaints about flat, samey sound. Its privacy notice lets it train on uploads and prompts with no opt-out, and a German court ruled in July 2026 that its older models copied protected songs.

Best for Making a joke birthday song or a quick demo of a lyric idea

7

Udio 9/25Not recommended

Udio once rivalled Suno for realistic vocals, and Tom's Guide gave it 4.5 stars in 2024. After its October 2025 settlement with Universal it switched off downloads for everyone, paying users included, and its terms now forbid putting songs on any device or streaming site. Its own changelog shows no major feature since September 2025, Sony filed a second lawsuit in July 2026, and the promised licensed relaunch has no date.
