How it scores

Not recommended. It scores 12 or less out of 25 overall, so there are better options in this category.

Usefulness
2/5

Terms clause 1.2 bars downloading or sharing output off-platform (udio.com/terms-of-service), so songs can only be played inside Udio; individual reviewers ask 'what's the point'.

Ease of use
3/5

Web and iOS only, no Android app; Tom's Guide found deeper customisation 'can get quite complex' (tomsguide.com/udio-review); Trustpilot reviewers report browser compatibility problems.

Value for money
2/5

Free tier is 10 credits a day (help.udio.com credits article); £10 a month buys more songs but still no downloads (UK App Store); Trustpilot 1.5 from 59 reviews cites billing and downloads.

Privacy and trust
1/5

Trains on prompts and output with no opt-out in the terms (udio.com/terms-of-service); Sony's second lawsuit filed July 2026 (musicbusinessworldwide.com).

Momentum in 2026
1/5

Changelog shows no major feature since Voices in September 2025 (help.udio.com changelog); user reviews calls it 'dead' (June 2026); licensed relaunch app Starstruck has no launch date (letsdatascience.com, May 2026).

Verdict

Udio once rivalled Suno for realistic vocals, and Tom's Guide gave it 4.5 stars in 2024. After its October 2025 settlement with Universal it switched off downloads for everyone, paying users included, and its terms now forbid putting songs on any device or streaming site. Its own changelog shows no major feature since September 2025, Sony filed a second lawsuit in July 2026, and the promised licensed relaunch has no date.

Privacy note. Trains on prompts and output with no opt-out in the terms (udio.com/terms-of-service); Sony's second lawsuit filed July 2026 (musicbusinessworldwide.com).

Ratings

What people say

Long-time users still like Udio's melodies, but the user mood since the October 2025 download shutdown is anger and resignation, with posts in 2026 calling the app dead and asking whether it will be wiped. App Store stars (4.21 from 421, thin) and Trustpilot (1.5 from 59, thin) both point the same way.

“They've removed the ability to download the music we create, which completely ruins the whole point of using the platform.”

FAQ

Can I download songs from Udio?

No. Udio switched off downloads for all users after its settlement with Universal in October 2025, and its terms now forbid downloading or posting output to any device or streaming site.

Is Udio free?

There is a free account with 10 credits a day and a 100-credit monthly limit. Standard costs £10 a month in the UK App Store but still does not allow downloads.

Is Udio shutting down?

Udio has said it will relaunch as a licensed platform with Universal and Warner, and a mobile app called Starstruck was shown privately in April 2026. No launch date has been announced, and users in user reviews say the current site has barely changed in a year.

Udio vs Suno?

Some users prefer Udio's melodies, but Suno still lets paying users download songs and keeps releasing new models. Both are being sued by record labels.
