Verdict
Wispr Flow removes the ums, fixes punctuation and handles mid-sentence corrections, so dictated emails need far less tidying than with built-in phone dictation. It runs only in the cloud, the free plan stops at 1,000 words a week on a phone, and Pro is £15 a month. Wispr raised $280 million in August 2026, while some paying users in user reviews say quality slipped this summer.

What people say
People who try it are often impressed that it beats their phone's own dictation, but user reviews in 2026 is full of privacy worry about audio going to Wispr's servers, and some Pro users say output quality dipped in mid-2026 (TechCrunch also notes the dip). Store stars (4.8 iOS, 4.5 Play) run higher than user reviews's mood.
“Currently I have transcribed over 50,000 words and I am averaging at about 160 words per minute. The technology is absolutely amazing.”

Tested on Android: removes filler words and handles backtracking impressively, though the floating button sometimes failed in WhatsApp and it needs a sensitive screen-reading permission.

'May feel like a significant step up from the basic tools built into a phone', especially for people who hate typing long messages.
- TechCrunch 2026-08-17
News: $280M at a $2B valuation; a new Canto model promises fewer errors after users reported a recent quality dip.
Privacy
- Trains on your data
- unclear: the privacy policy (updated 19 Aug 2026) describes training as something users 'opt to share', but the Data Controls page does not state the default, and third-party reviews say sharing was on by default for consumer accounts
- Opt-out
- yes, Settings > Data and Privacy controls model improvement and Dictation Cloud Storage separately; enterprise accounts have sharing off
- Retention
- No fixed periods; transcripts kept on Wispr servers while Dictation Cloud Storage is on; third-party AI providers have zero data retention agreements. All dictation is processed in the cloud with no offline mode.
- Incidents
- Trustpilot removed Wispr's profile for breaching its guidelines (seen 2026-10-10). Reviewers cite earlier privacy controversy and optional screen-context capture. No breach or regulator action found in searches of TechCrunch, HN and Exa.
- Age limit
- 13+ in the US, 16+ elsewhere including the UK (privacy policy)

FAQ
Is Wispr Flow free?
There is a free plan with 2,000 words a week on a computer and 1,000 a week on a phone. Pro removes the limit for £15 a month in the UK App Store, with half price for students.
Is Wispr Flow safe?
It is a mainstream app, but all speech is processed on Wispr's servers and there is no offline mode. Model training and cloud storage can be switched off in Settings > Data and Privacy.
Does Wispr Flow work on Android?
Yes. Android arrived in 2026, joining Mac, Windows and iPhone. On Android it uses a floating button rather than replacing the keyboard.
Is it better than the dictation built into a phone?
Reviewers say yes for longer messages, because it removes filler words, adds punctuation and handles corrections mid-sentence. For a short text, built-in dictation is free and often enough.
